WeDesyn

WeDesyn

Empowering anyone to create custom wear

Overview

WeDesyn is an iOS mobile app that allows people to vote on designs for clothes easily in custom groups. People can create their own groups or or join an existing group. WeDesyn is great for anyone who wants to have a say in school class shirts. Or for fans of brands/celebrities who want to design apparel for them. The process is simple:

  • Post ideas in the idea tab and vote on the best idea within the campaign period
  • The winning idea (most upvoted) is sent to our designers who will send polished and professional designs
  • Members vote on polished designs
  • The winning design is made into a final product, available for pre-order on the platform

This simple process allows anyone to have a say in high quality custom-designed clothes quickly and easily

Challenges

WeDesyn requires coordination across three sides:

  • Groups who want a custom design
  • Designers who provide the polished design winner among the group
  • Warehousing / fulfillment companies that drop-ship the garments

Coordinating this is very difficult.

My Role

For WeDesyn, I:

  • Spoke with potential customers
  • Designed the app
  • Built the iOS app using Swift and AWS EC2
  • Launched the app on the Apple App Store
  • Got our first customers to use the app
  • Got our first customers to order from the app

I built the app under the Spooler umbrella. The clothing design elements fit nicely into its HDLV and Timeless products.

Accomplishments

Getting my old high school to order shirts was an incredible accomplishment for me. Students actually logged into the app, submitted ideas, and upvoted ideas!

Market Opportunities

We saw two market opportunities for WeDesyn:

  • High schools (and, secondarily, colleges)
  • Brands

High schools provided a great test grounds where students can vote on their favorite clothes to represent them. Brands were the larger opportunity where they can tap into their fan base and have them create custom clothes for themselves.

Learnings

I learned how to build more complicated products effectively and efficiently, and really sharpened my ability to design products. This was definitely my best designed product to date.
